Dear Friends,
Some years ago, I heard this story and every Valentine’s Day it comes to mind. Allow me to share it with you: Bobby was an awkward little third grader. He really did not have many friends and often times you would see him playing alone on the playground. One day, he came bouncing into his house after school and could not wait to tell his mom about Valentine’s Day. In his hand he held the list of his classmates. He said with such enthusiasm, “Mom, this weekend I need to buy my valentines and write them all out for school on Monday.” The weekend came, Bobby and his mom picked out his valentines – he was so excited to write out all the classmates’ names on the envelopes. Early Monday morning, Bobby’s mom got up to make him a special breakfast – heart shaped pancakes will help lift his disappointed heart. But, Bobby did not have time – he rushed out the door and ran to school with excitement. Throughout the day, Bobby’s mom prayed for him,“Dear Lord, please let Bobby get a least one valentine. Don’t let his heart be broken.” At 3:15pm, she ran out the door so she could meet him. Bobby looked so dejected he was swinging his arm back and forth and she thought she heard him say, “I didn’t get a one, I didn’t get a one.” “Oh Lord, she cried – he didn’t even get one?” But, as Bobby came closer she saw the smile on his face and he was saying, “I didn’t miss a one, I didn’t miss a one.” What a wonderful story that correlates unconditional love to the love that God has for us. God does not want to miss a one – no, not one! It is City Impact’s mission to continue to share this love message to those children, youth and families that we work with daily. Thank you for your continued love and financial support to City Impact – it does make a difference. With much love, Betty Alvarez Ham President P.S.
