“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” Mother Teresa5/13/2023
Dear Friends,
This week, I walked into Leslie’s Hallmark to redeem my coupon and select the various cards I needed. When I walked down the aisle a gentleman asked me, “Why are there three rows of Mother’s Day cards and only one for Father’s Day. Then he stopped himself and said, “Now, that’s a dumb question.” I chuckled as he continued to process his role as a Dad compared to his wife as a Mom. “She did everything, giving birth to our three kids, changed diapers, woke up in the middle of the night to feed them; as they got older enrolled them in school, took them to school and picked them up. Now, that I’m thinking about it she cooked and did the majority of the laundry (actually all of it 😉) but, I did do the math homework (her one area of weakness). Wow, there is only three aisles for moms?” Again, I chuckled and said to him, “she is quite a lady” “Was, she died two years ago. I’m buying these cards for my daughter and daughter in-law.” “I’m so sorry.” “I’m sorry – I’ve been chatting your ear off. Are you a therapist?” “No, just a friend to hear your special story. Thank you” “Small things with great love” I was blessed that afternoon, I was reminded of my mother who passed away 22 years ago. She prayed for her knuckleheaded daughter every day. She once said to me, “Mija, you could be the President of the United States if you put your mind to it. But, why slump to that position when you could minister to those in need?” I do personally think the President can make a difference. Yet, I also believe it’s the every day acts of kindness, love, faith and mercy goes a long way. Thank you for standing in the gap for those in need. I do know it makes a difference. Mom, you were so right about my calling. Happy Mother’s Day. Together for Him, Betty Alvarez Ham President |
