“It takes COURAGE to let go of the familiar and embrace the NEW”

“Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 (NIV)
Dear Friends,

I have been known to say, “I love change” then, one day a staff member lovingly pointed out, “Betty, I think you love change when it doesn’t involve you.” I did ponder on her statement, then this quote came to mind:

“It takes COURAGE to let go of the familiar and embrace the NEW”

As I have studied scripture I have found that GOD used change to refine his people and prevent stagnation. Throughout the Old Testament we see the people of Israel crossing the Jordan River signifying the changes God was directing.  In fact, we also see that GOD told Israel remember where I have taken you and now where I am guiding you.

After 22 years, City Impact has relocated its office down the street a mile and a half away (555 S. A Street, Suite #185) to a smaller yet more effective building location.  Since 85% of our services are decentralized in schools, homes, neighborhoods/community centers, churches and the juvenile institution – it was wise to down size our administrative office.  Also, this move did wonders for cleaning out the years of clutter. Our new location is for clinical supervision of our therapists and counseling, meetings/coordination of our outreach staff and the daily tasks of the finance and development teams.

Today, we are in more schools in Ventura County than we have ever been before and our outreach teams spend much of their time working with students and families in their homes and community.  It is a bit different working in a smaller office, but staff see and are in contact with each other more frequently.

Please feel free to come by and visit – we can walk across the street and have a cup of coffee at Starbucks.  Thank you for your years of love and support, I look forward to updating you in September with the good work of City Impact.

With much love and appreciation,
Betty Alvarez Ham
President

P.S. All our schools are back in session – please pray for God’s covering over the students, faculty and staff.  This weekend, Camarillo High School experienced another death of a student.
