Dear Friends,
Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day written by Judith Viorst is a wonderful book for all ages. This book tells the story of a young boy named Alexander and his bad day that is filled with one crisis after another. From the moment Alexander wakes up and finds gum in his hair he knows it is going to be a bad day, and he is correct. Everyone can identify with the mishaps Alexander finds himself in as well as his struggles with his older siblings. In Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, Judith uses a more realistic view of problems and that fact draws us in. As the story goes on Alexander discovers that things don’t get immediately better. However, in the end Alexander finds comfort in the words from his mother when she explains that some days are just bad days … even in Australia. Through the story of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day we all can learn that everyone has a bad day, but when we look at things closely they may might not seem so bad after all. Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day is the book that can help us understand the downside of things in a positive way. As a kid I loved this book; I laughed, I cried and I felt encouraged by Judith’s words. But as a woman in her early sixties, I felt more inspired by the words of Max Lucado, the Apostle James and other stalwarts of the faith. You see, as many of you, I have struggled these past couple years through COVID 19. Depression has beckoned our doors, discouragement has parked itself in our home, sadness has crept inside our souls and tears have filled our eyes. Yet in spite of the emotional pain and hurt – I stand firmly on God’s promise: “When a believing person prays, great things happen.” I am unable to see the great things yet – but, I have total assurance they are coming. Thank you for your love support and continued prayers. Because of Him, Betty Alvarez Ham President P.S.
