Dear Friends,
It was December 31, 2021, Kevin, Chelsea, Kyle and I were in San Antonio. We were out to dinner and debriefed over the difficult year we experienced. In many ways, it was more difficult than the past couple of years. City Impact had to adjust its programs to meet the needs of those we serve. School personnel were frustrated with student’s lack of interests in their academics and even their attendance. Parents were angry with their student’s poor performance and attitudes. Students were depressed and violence hit our schools. Law enforcement were now teaching non-profit staff on School Active Shooters and School Lockdowns. All of these issues overwhelmed my staff as they were discouraged and felt hopeless. I would come home in tears and cry out to God. “How am I to help and support them?” In God’s infinite wisdom He encouraged me to read about my sister Esther. She is an incredible woman who faced extremely difficult situations. I love the fact that Esther believed that this period of time was so critical that she and all her attendants fasted food and water for three days and nights. She also sent word to Mordecai to gather all the Jews and do the same. Wow, what an incredible response, but that wasn’t it – after three days Esther said, “I will approach the king even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.” In other words, Esther was all in. You will need to read the book of Esther to find out the conclusion. But, City Impact’s response was and is – WE ARE ALL IN! The staff and board of City Impact continues to trust God for his covering and direction. Thank you for your love and prayers. Because of Him, Betty Alvarez Ham, President P.S.
