Dear Friends,
I have been called many things in my lifetime; “Crazy Green Bay Packer fan”, “that Crazy Latina” and even “that Crazy Midget” (that one was by my Methodist Bishop friend). I have always taken those names in stride, probably because there is a grain of truth in them. Some weeks ago, when I was doing my devotions, I found this parable that Jesus told about prayer, and there, before my eyes was another crazy woman. Allow me to paraphrase the story. So there's this judge in a certain town who has no respect for God or mortals. In fact, he did not care about what anyone thought of him. And there also was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary. For some time he refused. But she kept coming and encircled his house, so finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’” Now, scripture does not mention what the injustice was that caused this crazy woman to respond with such persistence. But we do know she would not take no for an answer. This woman’s methodology of persistence was quite unorthodox. She probably should have waited her turn in court. But this woman was not about protocol – she was desperate. Desperate enough to plead her case night and day if that is what it would take. Jesus goes on to say that if this unjust judge responded this way how would your Heavenly Father respond. Yes, I am a crazy woman and I am crazy about the children, youth and families that we work with. I am crazy about making a difference in our community. I am crazy about our staff that work so diligently and our board who give sacrificially. So, my response is to pray like crazy because our Heavenly Father hears those crazy desperate prayers. He embraced the prostitute who washed his feet, He healed the paralytic whose friends lowered him through the roof and He hears our crazy desperate prayers. All because desperate crazy prayers produces crazy miracles. Thank you for your continued love, prayer and financial support of City Impact. Crazy for Him, Betty Alvarez Ham President P.S.
