Dear Friends,
Happy New Year! I love the story about the woodpecker that one day was doing his normal thing, pecking on trees when a thunder storm developed and lighting began to strike. Fretting for his life the bird hid in the tree. All of a sudden a bolt of lightning struck the tree splitting it in half. When the storm passed, the bird went to survey the damage and was astonished. He then flew to gather his friends to show them the tree and with excitement he said, “Look what I just did!” Yes, an extraordinary feat for an ordinary bird. City Impact is made up of the ordinary. Ordinary men and women who serve in the capacity of board members, staff and volunteers. What I find so amazing is that God chooses to use the ordinary to achieve extraordinary feats for his kingdom. I once was told, “When we stop making resolutions, we stop loving God. When we stop breaking resolutions, we stop needing God.” So, what can we lose? Let’s make some big goals for our personal lives, let’s reach for the stars regarding what we want to see happen in our families, let’s expect miracles in the lives that we touch everyday. Together let’s dream big for City Impact because we serve a BIG God. This year, we are serving Oxnard Elementary, Oxnard Union High, Hueneme, Santa Paula, and Fillmore School Districts. I am setting bigger goals and adding them to the list I didn’t finish last year. I am going to dream bigger dreams and envision more children, youth, and families experiencing Christ’s love through City Impact and our partners. Will you join me in making some big resolutions for God? Really, what can we lose? Because of Him, Betty Alvarez Ham President P.S.
