Youth Impact Mentoring Program
The REAL Life and Boyz to Men Mentoring Program provides intensive one-to-one and school-based group mentoring for eligible youths referred to the program. Children as young as 8 years old are matched with a caring adult mentor; and this nurturing relationship helps students learn about themselves and develop the confidence to make wise choices. They also discover their self-worth, uncover talents and deepen their faith.
Mentors are recruited, screened, trained and supervised. After the mentors are screened and trained, they spend 1-2 hours per week with their mentees and participate in group activities. The mentor/mentee activities include discussions on positive choices, the effects of gang activity, journal writing, cultural sensitivity, goal setting, recognition strategies, the negative effects of drugs/alcohol/tobacco use, truancy, delinquency and other current issues. Our youth mentoring program is held at designated schools throughout Ventura County. |

AFTER-SCHOOL TUTORING |
Our after-school program operates once a week for elementary students at Juana Maria Elementary School (boys and girls ages 8-12). The program consists of one-hour outdoor physical activities and healthy snacks, and one-hour of academic tutoring with the high school students and caring adults who are recruited to serve as mentors for the students.

Our objectives focus on job readiness skills, communication skills, company/business field trips and job shadowing.
Students are presented with the opportunities to explore educational and career opportunities through field trips to local industries and educational institutions such as community colleges, universities and vocational schools. |

SCHOOL SUPPORT GROUPS
City Impact’s Group Facilitators and Therapists work to provide weekly student intervention/prevention groups during and after school hour’s on/off school campuses. Additionally, weekly groups are provided for incarcerated youth at the Ventura County Juvenile Justice Complex. This program is designed to counter the social ills of truancy, school dropout, crime, gangs, substance abuse, and teen pregnancy that often serve as obstacles for the target population. This program empowers youngsters by providing life skills and academic learning that opens the door to new options and opportunities.
